A young lady was sitting at a local convenience store looking sad and dejected. A member of our volunteer team engaged her and found out she was from out of state and just relocated here, was unhoused, coming from a bad relationship and experience behavioral health issues. The team members guided her to Little Daisy’s Closet. We were able to furnish her clothing, a hot meal, food to go and loved up on her with compassion and hope. One of our unselfish board members took the young lady into her home for 3 months until sufficient housing could be found! She is tearfully grateful and describes how Little Daisy’s Closet is her “Angel”. The young lady now has an apartment, is becoming self-sufficient and reconnecting with her children. She gives it back by volunteering at Little Daisy’s Closet.
A young mother called us late one evening because her mate had thrown her and her daughter out of the house and burnt their clothes and toys on the front lawn and made them watch this unforgivable tragedy. The mother and daughter got away and moved in with a relative. Little did we know that the daughter lost her Barbie house and Barbie dolls that horrible evening and her birthday was quickly approaching. Three days earlier, a generous donor donated a huge Barbie house and over 20 Barbie dolls to Little Daisy’s Closet. We met the very next morning with the mother and daughter to provide clothing and toys. The devastated family left with clothing and the little girl left with a Barbie house, lots of Barbie dolls, a birthday bag and the knowledge and love of knowing that, despite her horrific ordeal, there is still hope and goodness in people.
A middle-aged lady recently released from incarceration was referred to Little Daisy’s Closet. She visited with apprehension, loss of hope and anxiety. She had an upcoming job interview and had no clothing or confidence in her appearance. We immediately partnered with Ms. Kathy, the co-founder of the organization, whose has a heart the size of Texas, especially for the underdog and those who society has thrown away. Ms. Kathy took her by the hand, comforted her by letting her know they would find her clothing and everything would be alright. Those two created a bond and shopped for over 45 minutes, The young lady was offered the chance to use the restroom to try on her new digs and see what she thought. She came out of the restroom crying! Ms. Kathy was concerned that maybe they chose the wrong attire and asked with concern, what’s wrong sweetie? Through tears the lady replied, “I never looked and felt so good in all my life”. Ms. Kathy and her embraced for a tearful hug! There was not a dry eye in the place! She left feeling appreciative and with loads of confidence. She visited again to report that she had acquired the job and was so grateful that someone actually cared for her and her future success.
Every year the kids like to do a lemonade stand and donate the money to an individual in the community who needs help. Last year they donated to a family whose mother was fighting cancer and a high amount of medical bills. This year, talking about about the yard sale, Olivia said” Mommy I want to help  more families this year. After looking into many organizations, they decided on Little Daisys’ Closet. When they reviewed LDC and the difference it was making in the community they were in agreement that’s where the lemonade stand proceeds would go.
The family presented LDC their check for $220.00 and also volunteered for several hours that day!
Olivia said to her mommy, I was the youngest volunteer they ever had. Why don’t more kids my age help our other people? The world would be a better place if we all just loved each other.
“Olivia you are an inspiration to us all”
